Anba Pye Mapou A, meaning “Under the Mapou Tree,” is a whole-child wellness program serving children in Hayti through four integrated components focused on physical health, abuse prevention and survivor support, mental wellness, and community education.
Inspired by the Mapou tree, a powerful cultural symbol associated with gathering, community, and the stories people carry, Anba Pye Mapou A creates space to address some of the most difficult challenges affecting children, including child sexual abuse, trauma, mental health struggles, and other forms of suffering that are too often left hidden or unspoken.
Through education, support services, and community engagement, the program helps children and families access the resources they need while working to break cycles of silence that allow harm to continue.
Because healing begins when difficult truths are spoken and someone finally listens.
How It Works:
Rasin Sante (Roots of Health):
Age-appropriate health and hygiene education for girls and boys, covering body awareness, puberty, reproductive health basics, access to hygiene essentials, and clinic-partnered wellness checks.
Vwa Ou Konte (Your Voice Matters):
A safe, confidential space for children to learn about abuse prevention, understand safe reporting pathways, and access survivor support through licensed therapists and trauma-informed care. The shame belongs to the abuser. Never the child.
Kraze Chen Lespri (Break the Chains of the Mind):
Mental health support designed specifically for the Haytian cultural context, dismantling the stigma around seeking help and providing children with individual counseling, peer support groups, and age-appropriate mental wellness education.
Sonen Tronpèt (Sound the Trumpet):
Community education workshops for parents, grandparents, teachers, and community members, equipping them to recognize signs of abuse and mental health struggle, and break cycles of silence that have protected abusers for too long.
